The Call for Artists…. Chale Wote Arts Festival 2019

PIDGIN IMAGINARIUM ABSTRACT In the last 500 years, the African continent has provided free labour for the Western imperial project. Whether via the triangular traffic of human-merchandise or conscription into two world wars, the implications of this brutal harvesting of bodies are yet to be fully measured. Presently, we are witnessing the rise of fascism…

It may be all about Accra, but there’s a lot more to Ghana and you should go see it.

He was ‘glad to be able to report’ that services from the capital Accra east to nearby Tema had restarted following rehabilitation of the 1 067 mm gauge line, although reopening of the line north from Accra to Nsawam had been delayed because sand extraction had undermined the track near Pokuase. ‘If we want the railways to work, we would all have to take an interest in and stop the activities of encroachers on the railway lands’, he said. Rehabilitation of the next stage from Nsawam to Koforidua is underway, the President reported.

Famous Ghanaians and the Year Of Return, Ghana 2019

Second-generation Ghanaian immigrants, who like me share a Ghanaian and British identity, personify the continuing connection the two countries have enjoyed since independence. In Ghana, the idea of welcome is everything. The word for it in Twi (the main language other than English) is akwaaba. (Don’t worry if you don’t remember it: you’ll see it everywhere.) On my most recent visit, the spirit of welcome started the moment my flight touched down in Accra, as the Ghanaian passengers began a rapturous round of applause for the captain – not because the journey had been turbulent, but simply as a way of saying thank you.

The Sounds of Ghana : Ebony. Gone but not forgotten.

I was not a huge fan of Ebony despite meeting her a couple of times. The music was okay, mainstream local pop, and her musical message was not really one I shared. However, what happened to her was very sad. But what I did like about her was that she clearly showed local youth that if you want something from life you are going to have to work really hard for it, and she deserves a heap of credit for that.

#MarineDrive Accra. The future of Accra, Ghana and Africa.

The project which is dubbed the “Marine Drive Tourism and Investment Project,” is under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture, in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) and is expected to create 36 thousand (36,000) jobs during the first phase of the project. Additionally, it would employ about one hundred and fifty thousand (150,000) people upon completion.

Ghana is a happy country with happy people, most of the time.

In the Sub-Saharan African ranking, Ghana placed fourth behind Mauritius (57), Nigeria (85) and Cameroon (96) in the top five which was completed by neighbours Ivory Coast (99).

The ranking was computed based on an average of three years of surveys taken by Gallup between 2016 and 2018 and include factors such as gross domestic product, social support from friends and family, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, perceived corruption and recent emotions of citizens — both happy and sad.
